Programme Overview

The Master of Physiotherapy (MPT) is a two-year postgraduate degree programme that comes under the stream of Medicine and Allied Science. The Two-Year Master's Programme in Orthopaedic/Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy helps the student gain knowledge about different musculoskeletal conditions such as knee osteoarthritis, lower back pain, and neck pain, among others. It also deals with the treatment of sprains, strains, post-fracture, post-surgery, and repetitive injuries. Orthopaedic physical therapy involves the care of the entire musculoskeletal system, which includes bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons, joints, and connective tissue. We provide the ideal combination of engaging lectures, field trips, hands-on activities, participation in national and international seminars, conferences, and internships. The programme gives students practical instruction in the form of a research project.

  • PO1: The student will be skilled in treatment planning, management, administration of physiotherapy treatment, and provision of patient support.
  • PO2: Acquire in-depth knowledge of the structure and function of the human body related to the respective branch of specialty.
  • PO3: Acquire in-depth knowledge of movement dysfunction in the human body and the principles underlying the use of physiotherapeutic interventions for restoring movement dysfunction towards normalcy.
  • PO4: Demonstrate skill in Physical and Functional diagnosis pertaining to the patient under his or her care.
  • PO5: Demonstrate the ability to critically appraise recent physiotherapeutic and related literature from journals and adopt diagnostic and therapeutic procedures based on it.
  • PO6: A PT post-graduate is encouraged to pursue further qualification to attain a senior position in the professional field, and to keep abreast of the advances and new technology, the professional should opt for continuous professional education credits offered by national and international institutes.
  • PO7: Employment opportunities can be found in hospitals in both the private and public sectors, as well as in independent physiotherapy clinics and teaching institutes.

  • PSO1: Demonstrate the ability to make clinical decisions (based on evaluation) regarding Physiotherapy strategy techniques and select appropriate outcome measures based on comprehensive knowledge of the specialty.
  • PSO2: Demonstrate expertise in evidence-based skills in the management of disorders, including movement dysfunction, in the concerned specialty.
  • PSO3: Demonstrate expertise in health promotion, early identification, and intervention for quality restoration of function.
  • PSO4: Demonstrate proficiency in creating awareness using newer technology at various levels in the community for healthcare and professional awareness.
  • PSO5: Demonstrate leadership, managerial, administrative, and communication skills.
  • PSO6: Demonstrate knowledge of legislation applicable to compensation for functional disability welfare schemes and the rights of the disabled, laws related to industrial workers and the disabled, and appropriate certification.

  • PEO1: Planning and implementation of treatment programmes adequately and appropriately for all clinical conditions common as well as rare related to respective specialties in acute and chronic stages, in intensive care, indoor, outdoor, and institutional care, independent practise, on fields of sports and community, and during disaster situations.
  • PEO2: The student will also perform independent research within the department and help the department and the team with treatment planning for the patient.
